Red Angus Bulls
Here at Fick Red Angus we raise our bulls how we would like to buy them. In good shape but not fat!!! What you see is what you are going to get. It is not uncommon for our bulls to gain significant weight over their first breeding season. Our calves receive no creep while on there mothers and once weaned the bull calves receive approximately .8% of body weight in creep feed and free choice prairie hay. I say approximately because winters vary drasticly year to year so we weigh our bulls several times over the winter to make sure we are around our target gain(2#s ADG). They receive no supplement when they go back on grass in May until the grass starts to dry up in August. Then they will start receiving supplement again to keep them on their 2#s ADG until sale day. We believe that growing the bulls this way will result in higher semen count, more cows being covered, and increased longevity with less leg and hoof problems.
These are just a few of our herd bulls.
